EXCURSION TO BATIK TULIS

Step by step process how to make a Batik handkerchief:

1. First step is to get your handkerchief, then hold it with your left hand.

2.  Then you get your tool called the canting. Dip the canting in the wax but not too full! Then take it. The wax is called malam (heat it).

3. Trace on the handkerchief but make sure the angle is facing the top.

4. Paint on the handkerchief with a brush. Make sure there's no white spots.

5. Dry the handkerchief for about 5 minutes.

6. Put the handkerchief in the acid and then dry.

7. Put it in the boiling water.

8. Dry the handkerchief under the sun.

9. Take your handkerchief.

10. Blow your nose.

11. Fold it.

         This is the first time in my life to make batik.   

                                                       

    AAAAAAAAh... the wax burned my hand!

                                    AAAAAAAAh I got so much wax dripping on me!

                                                           

                                   I’m so proud of myself because it is neat.                                                            

                                     The wax dripped on my leg but came off like a candle.         

                                     This is so hard. This is so hot.

                                      Everyone needs a little help.

                                       It takes long to concentrate.

                                        Are the cantings still hot?

                                     These sticks are like paint brushes.

                                        Do I have to do it so detailish?

                                           I think it looks weird when it is not green.

                                       Will the wax really melt off?

                                      How hot is that?

                                       Ok so the maroon turns green.

                                        I wonder how they make that.

                                   I never knew that people used recycled paper for a book.

                                   Nobody gets that purple shirt. It is Mr. Charlie’s property.

 

                                        Mmmmh I think I have delicious things to eat.

                                     I didn’t know the sky was red.

 

                                           Cool.

                                      Wow everyone’s batik looks nice.
 

                                      Throw it catch, catch it and blow your nose.

Creativity The wax dripped where it wasn’t suppose to be and I turned it into flowers.  I did a pattern with the colours for the border, light green, yellow and red.

Enthusiasm My heart was pounding when I heard we could make batik. I was excited to make batik for the 2nd time.

Independence I paint the batik myself. I was brave to make batik but I had a little help.

Respect I listened to the instructions how to make batik. I asked the host how to do the batik before I did it.

Curiosity I wanted to know how to use that pen thing. (canting) I wanted to know where the paint came from.

Cooperation I wait when others take the wax. I waited until someone finished speaking before I asked a question.

Commitment My tracing was patient even though I was the last one to finish, but still it was neat. I made a batik handkerchief.
