CHINESE NEW YEAR 2015

We were all dressed in red for the Chinese New Year Celebrations. Not only did we get to watch the lion and dragon dance but also perform a special Chinese dance. After this thanks to the organisation of the student council (which includes 2 of our students, Clay and Gaby) we played some fun games. Instead of pin the tail on the donkey it was changed to pin the tail on the goat. (new zodiac symbol for the year 2015.)

These are our artworks about Chinese Zodiac signs

We listened to a story about how the Chinese Zodiac signs were chosen. It all started when the emperor asked 12 animals to have a race to the palace. The tricky part was they had to cross a river. Who do you think would come first? Believe it or not it was the rat. He was clever enough to wait on the Ox's back and when it was time to get out the water the rat jumped up onto his head and then on the bank. The pig trailed the field. I wonder why? Please look at our images and writing to represent our own version of the story.

Term 3 Blogs

Where are the fish?

Our fish and tank disappeared over the holidays. We had to think creatively what may have happened. Here were the responses:

Gaby – the fish packed their bags because they didn’t like it when they are lonely and there are no people.
Feri –I think any people in the school didn’t feed the fish and the fish is very hungry and the fish will be dead.
Ye Jin – I think fish going to beach and make a sandcastle.
Prince – I think the fish were shot by the United States Army because they want to eat them.
Rahma –I think the fish didn’t eat in the holidays. Maybe no one fed the fish because they were so small. If it is true that no one fed them then I think they died of starvation.

Alaka – The fish didn’t have anyone to feed them for 31 days so they may have sadly, sadly very sadly died which is very sad.
Nathan –I think that the air-conditioner was loose and fell on the fish tank. In other words the air conditioner killed the fish. Very sad.
Clay –The fish were hungry so they jumped out of the fish tank and landed to the ground. The fish were dead on the classroom floor.
Jordi – I think the fish got hit by a stick and someone came here earlier or last night and they might be like 16 years old.
Dyllan – I think a dragon smashed through the door with his buddy, the cat. They ate the roasted fish but how was it roasted? The cat and the dragon had a camp fire.
Robin – The fish went to Mars and the rocket got destroyed by a UFO.

Avi – The fish did not get fed for a long time so they got dumb and mad and they pushed the tank and they fell and swam out the water and died. After lightning stuck and they run because they turned into fish humans.

Fractions

We looked at different ways to
integrate learning fractions with other subject areas. We had two talented students able to play, “Mary had a little lamb,” with 4 different levels of water. We had the ELC2 students join us at assembly to sing the nursery rhyme. In art we traced different fractions to make the scales of a “Fraction fish.” We asked for help from a student in the Middle School how to add two mixed fractions together. The key we were told was to make the fractions have a common denominator.

Persuasive posters – Parents, send your child to ELC1 and 2

This week we have been promoting ISB at Botani Square. We decided to pay a visit to the ELC1 and 2 area and look at the learning environment. We then chose our favourite play area and suggested why Ms. Miriam provided these learning opportunities and how this connects with the PYP learner profile. The ELC2 students also visited our class and were excited to see the completed posters about the ELC area.
These are the statements we made on our posters:

Avi – If you have a young child you should definitely come to ISB because they can have fun in the sandpit. Your child can learn by building mini houses and castles in the sandpit. They are being an inquirer.
Robert – Let your child get to learn in ISB because they could learn how
to ride a bike. They are being a thinker.
Prince – Put your child in ISB so they can be smart and play with dinosaurs.
If you play with dinosaurs you need to be a risk-taker and not be scared.
Robin – Come to ISB because there are lots of things that make your
kids more creative. They can add sand and mud together and build houses
with that. They get to be a thinker.
Clay – You have to go to our school because the teacher can help you
how to be better at being balanced. You get to learn how to ride a tricycle.
Dyllan – You can have fun a lot and make friends easily. You can jump
on the trampoline with a friend. You are being a communicator.
Nathan – You should go to ISB because there is a very fun place with
dinosaurs and it gives you curiosity and creativity. You are being a good inquirer.
Jordi – You can go to ISB because it is very fun and peaceful. You
can play with bicycles. You are learning to be a risk taker.
Feri – Please come to ISB. You can play with the sand and make any
buildings like castles or a car. You are learning to be a risk-taker.
Rahma – Come to ISB. You can pretend to be working in a drive through
eating place and you could pretend to buy the food. You are being a
communicator to your friends.
Alaka – You should come to ISB. You can play in the sand pit and make a
lot of sand castles and have fun. You also learn how to build. You are being reflective.
Gaby – You should send your child to ISB because your child can be
creative by learning how to build stuff in the sand pit. They are being
open-minded.
